Last Second Save has been officially sanctioned by Cavemanon as something any Snoot Game fan should play after the original. To say it's an honor to be credited this way would be an understatement and a half.

The game's been patched up with Streamer Mode, new artworks and a plethora of more narrative tweaks to make the story the best it can be for the grand premiere. I hope you enjoy!

The final polish pass in more ways than one, with The Nerd's feedback to boot. New translation, more narrative tweaks, a few addressed plot holes, a new Accessibility feature and with that, LSS is finished. For real this time.

Thank you for playing! You can read the patch notes here.

Continuing on from "A familiar face", Trish and Wren go out together and have some takeout, but each have a hard time letting go of the past. Canonically the final bonus story in the LSS timeline, the unresolved plot thread of Trish will finally come to its conclusion.

Also contains a handful of new content, bugfixes and small narrative changes, all of which can be read here.

PRISTINE CUT PATCH IS LIVE! (01.09.2025)

Read the patch notes here!

After a month of work and plenty of great feedback (including the lead of Cavemanon himself), I took the time to iron out the game's story and add new content on top. Patch 1.06 is (somewhat) to LSS what Pristine Cut was to Slay The Princess, including:

  • FULL SPANISH TRANSLATION by Legalo, the translator for SG and Wani!
  • a new bonus story about Samantha and Ripley!
    • featuring art by the talented toad14!
  • reworked Anon and Fang storyline!
    • strong tweaks to the first chapter,  second chapter heavily rewritten
  • multiple reworked scenes, dialogue sequences and even an entire chapter
  • many small additions to existing scenes!
  • 20 + new  artworks!
  • new end credits song!
  • new polls for the Pristine Cut version of the game
  • and more, which you can read about in detail in the patch notes!

"What is this?"

Last Second Save ("LSS") is a "what if" scenario for Ending 1.  Anon, influenced by the harsh words of Naomi, realizes his approach to helping Fang was a bust after the disastrous prom night. Instead of distracting himself with video games, he sits down with Fang and, to the best of his abilities, comforts her.

Alas, he can't undo the damage that's already been done. Doesn't mean he won't try.

The story goes far beyond prom night, exploring what happens to the cast in the days after. The writers of E1 left a trail of breadcrumbs regarding the fates of many characters, some of which I scooped up and crafted into a cohesive story.

I've placed high emphasis on characters that went on unexplored in the original story or were given fairly shallow characterization  Samantha, Ripley, Naomi, Reed and Trish in particular are all given room to breathe and have their goals and motivations explored in detail.

"Is this just a happy ending for Ending 1?"

Kinda turned out that way, but not without some legwork to have it make sense.

I intentionally did not play E4 before completing this, so nearly all of the plotlines are based on E1-E3 lore, with some Goodbye Volcano High sprinkled in-between.  The resulting script is solely speculation and thorough theorycrafting except for some sparse info from a friend about E4. I don't know how much it sways from the canon best ending, but I bet it's a lot.

Most of all,  LSS is designed to neatly fit the canon resolution of E1! Without Anon's change of heart, the events of the game still act as an extension of the original bad ending. Pick the obvious wrong option at the start of the game to find out.

"What's in the bonus stories?"

Unlike in Snoot Game and its "bonus chapters", in LSS "bonus stories" unlock over time as you play through the game. You can play them from the moment they are unlocked and mainly act as supplement material for the main story, except for a few.

Beat the game to unlock the remaining four!

The bonus stories can also all be unlocked via the debug menu in Chapter Select.

  • Music room meltdown
  • Mask off
  • A path in the woods (Slay The Princess crossover)
  • Queens of gossip
  • Seething in the rain
  • A familiar face
  • A talk on the balcony
  • Making amends
  • ???
  • ???
  • ???
  • ???

"Does it have branching paths?"

The story remains linear all throughout, with only the final chapters offering seven impactful decisions.

There is only one ending, decided by picking "Help her" at the start of the game.

"Why make LSS though?"

"Screw it, I'm gonna make my own E4 before I see the real deal."

And I enjoyed every second of it!

Cool features

  • character development for Ripley, Samantha, Naomi, Naser, Trish and Reed
  • 12 bonus stories
  • 190+ hand-drawn artworks
  • 230+ custom sprites (check them out on Snootbooru!)
  • 69 38 main menu screens that change depending on recently played chapter/bonus story
  • full-blown gallery with all custom artworks, new sprites etc.

This game is very much a love letter to Snoot Game and I hope that sentiment shines through in the sheer attention to detail and care put into the story and art. I hope you enjoy!

(I'm using Google Translate from Spanish to English, I apologize in advance if something isn't clear) Hi, I wanted to thank you for this work you did with this mod, it really made me feel the same way I felt when I first saw Snoot Game,I really loved the work put into it to the point that I was so immersed in its story that when I checked my phone it was almost 6 in the morning and I had started playing at 10 at night. There are a lot of things to highlight: all the development of Lucy's parents, Reed's change, Trish's side story. I love that the game's ending is bittersweet and doesn't end happily like ending 4, since this ending is because Anon did everything right, while in the ending of 1b, even though Anon did everything possible to fix everything, the weight of their decisions before the mod still lingers. I love that they often draw parallels with the other endings; it's like George Lucas said, "It's like poetry, they rhyme." I'd love to elaborate more on everything I liked about this story, but the text would get even longer than it already is.

Even with everything said above, I have some complaints about the mod. I would have liked Rosa and Stella to appear. It seems strange that they aren't even mentioned, considering how important they are in Ending 3, and even though they are secondary characters in the others, I feel they at least deserved a mention. I don't understand why Anon chose that career. I understand that you didn't have him study the same thing as in Ending 4 because you didn't play it, but I still don't understand why he chose that. Lastly (because I can't think of anything else right now), I found it strange that you didn't play Ending 4 before finishing this project to have a complete overview of the characters. In any case, the game still works even if you didn't know what happened in Ending 4. If you've read this far, I'd like to ask you, since you said in a comment that you finally played Ending 4, what things would you have changed in the mod if you had known Ending 4 before starting to write the story? Also, why didn't you play Ending 4 before?

Again, thank you very much to the whole team for this wonderful story.

(+1)

I'm humbled that you liked it so much you lost track of time. Thank you, but also I'm very sorry lol

And also, sorry about Rosa and Stella! There just was no room for them in the plot. I mend that partially in Matters of Trust, where Rosa plays a far more prominent role. I hope you'll enjoy what I have planned for her.

As for your questions:

Answer 1: I answered a similar question from Gilogg a few weeks prior. To add onto that response, had I played Ending 4, I would probably not have felt the need to make LSS at all. I'd have been satisfied with the happy ending and moved on. It was a storm of perfect coincidences.

Answer 2: I wanted to come up with my own conclusions for the characters without seeing the canon best ending, motivated by seeing E3, then E2, then E1 in that order.

(+2)

Putting aside my thought regarding original Snoot Game, I have to say that Last Second Save is a brilliant game. Very mature story that improves certain aspects that didn't work in SG. I loved the hand-drawn illustrations.

(+1)

Dude i am so fucking pissed that i finished the game... I need MORE!!!!!

(1 edit) (+3)

Dude. I played this for a bit, and all I can say is, this is (at the moment) a real trip, and I'm not a big VN guy!

I love the references and humor put into this project, I lost it on a few of em. But the story for it is just as amazing, a nice 'what-if' for E1. Keep up the good work man, you're going to go far with this!!

(+1)

While I will never understand this community's obsession with replacing the bad endings as if they aren't just as important to the message of the overall product as the good ones, if not more so, I'm sure you mean well and I can tell a lot of hard work was put into this, and it appears to achieve what you set out to accomplish rather admirably. So if nothing else I can commend you on that basis. Good job, and I hope you got everything out of it you were looking for.

(+2)

In my case, when I was playing the game blind completely detached from the wider community, I just saw E1 as a good chance to try my luck with Ren'py.

Being able to take a story I like and just add onto it with such ease, tap directly into the game, it was like a dream come true. Everything else came as a result of that freedom. I can't thank Cavemanon enough, I had a lot of fun working on this.

(+1)

And that's what matters most at the end of the day. While I disagree with the premise on principle it's at least much better written than it's many, many peers.

In all fairness most of my rancor comes from it becoming an officially endorsed product, which carries multiple concerning implications, but more to the point sets the beliefs and expectations for the readers of future SG content in a way that slams shut any potential to envision the world and the backstories for the side characters outside of your own. Something I've already had to deal with myself.

Anyway, I'm rather curious how that came to be if you don't mind me asking. Were you friends with the guy or was it just a chance encounter of sorts? Also did you do your own sprite and CG edits? They for the most part blend in with SG's very well.

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm of the opinion that people can still envision the characters any way they want. LSS and MOT try to stick to the canon as much as possible (while taking some creative liberties) but otherwise the choice is on the player if they like that interpretation or not. Same as how I wasn't content with the side cast of SG and gave it my own spin. Players can iterate on that, reject it, whatever they like! Cavemanon liked it well enough to consider it on par with SG, that's the baseline here.

How did "sanctioning" come to be? The lead of Cavemanon just asked me one day and I said I'd be honored. That's about it. You may notice in the patch notes that he's being credited for a lot of narrative feedback. As for his reasoning, I never thought to ask.

Yes, I'm responsible for 90% of the art in this game. The remaining 10% is, Seal (made by a friend), Trish sprites done by Mellow (which I expanded upon), a few Fang outfits and Moe/Stella edits from Moe Job and Trust Your Colors. This was a one man job for the most part and everyone's welcome to use them in their projects.

That kinda misses the point but regardless, nice job and I wish you luck in your future endeavors. If you ever want another pair of eyes on something feel free to ask and I'd be happy to give you some tough love.  ✌

Is anyone planning on making a guide or chart with all the choices

(+2)

Hey dude, just coming by to say this rocks. Truly one of the most beautiful fan-written stories to have ever come out of Snoot Game.

Just a question though, you mentioned that you hadn't actually played through ending 4 of snoot game. Having finished this project now, did you get a chance to actually play it? Any thoughts on it? Like, is it what you would've expected for the story?

(+3)

Thanks for playing!

I really like how Fang and Anon are written in E4 and regret not going for a similar kind of synthesis of Fang/Lucy in LSS. It really is the best outcome for a character like her, the scenes these two share are the main highlight for me. E3 is still my personal favorite, I think it has some of the best, most impactful scenes, but E4 is definitely up there as well.

As for how the rest of the cast was handled, yeah, I like my own interpretation way more. Felt there was a wasted opportunity delegating their conclusions to comedy bits. I'm happy that LSS lets fans of these characters get more out of them.

(1 edit) (+1)

This is like the 3rd coming of scaly Christ to me

(+1)

Gentleman we have struck gold by being here by finding this

(1 edit) (+3)

Something else is on the horizon...

(+2)

Wrapping up the final few things, release should be coming in an hour or two. Stay tuned!

(+1)

I finished it and it was fantastic! Its amazing how you can do a whole chapter with Trish and I dont want to put a gun in my mouth.

I love the little animations. Like Wren's dad getting off the sofa, some really nice work.

Although, I was a little disappointed we didn't see this timeline's version of Amber. Since this is sent in 2028, this would be the farthest into the future we have seen. It would have been cool to see a toddler Amber pottering about.

Once again, truly amazing work! Whether you do more snoot stuff, make your own game or work with team on someone else's project, I look forward to what you do in the future, because I am sure it will be equality as amazing as LSS.

Word on the street is that Amber and other fanchildren will get their own game in the future. ;] Perhaps a year from now? But no promises on date yet. Besides LSS is quite a rollercoaster of emotions already so let's keep the adventures of each generation seperate. And thanks for sharing about the game! :]

Oh man, I hope so! I cant wait to see more!

bora jogar novamente

(+1)

Well, I know what I will be playing tonight!

(+1)

Aaaand it's out! Enjoy!

(+1)

Curtain Call, the final patch of LSS, is coming out on Sunday! You can expect new patch notes to come alongside it. There's quite a bunch of things being added/tweaked/even removed outside of the new bonus story.

Stay tuned!

(+1)

Maybe I am just stupid, but for the life of me I cant unlock the last four fullbody sprites in the extras. I feel like at least two of them should be young Rip and Sam from their bonus chapter, but I dont understand how I am missing them.

(+1)

First documented Steam Deck player of LSS lol

Looking into it, the sprites were mistakenly left in the gallery from a pre-Pristine Cut version and are impossible to access.

First three are Fang's post-time skip outfits which were replaced by the layeredimages system. They used to be "fang 15b" and "fang pjs", now they're both "fang_15b" and "fang_pjs".

The last one is of Naomi from the old version of "Facing Naomi", it's basically her post-time skip outfit but without the long hair.

Apologies, this is a huge oversight on my end! I will patch these up for the upcoming actual final update.

(+1)

At least I was not missing any content or going crazy haha.

As for the steam deck, it plays perfectly fine. There is an issue with naming bit, but that was in issue in snoot game too. 30 seconds rebinding some buttons fixes it.

(+1)

New bonus story coming out at the end of this week/next week!

Continuing on from "A familiar face", Trish and Wren go out together and have some takeout, but each have a hard time letting go of the past. Canonically the final bonus story in the LSS timeline, the unresolved plot thread of Trish will finally come to its conclusion.

Yeah, I decided to do it anyway, in spite of what I said in the past. Planned release is either end of this week (14.09) or the next. Will be packaged with a multitude of fixes, new artwork and more small narrative adjustments.

(+1)

Hotfix 1.06b

I'm releasing a hotfix that patches up a layeredimages error for Lucy. It's a floating "missing image" popup, only noticable twice in the whole game, but still something I omitted in playtesting.

Thank you for playing!

(+1)

New patch is out! You can read the full changelog here! I hope you find the changes worthwhile a second playthrough!

(+2)

It was one of the best experiences I had in a long long while... Really beautiful piece of work, really loved it.

Is there any plans to translate it to spanish? can't recommend this mod enough but a lot of people are waiting for a translation.

(+1)

A translator has been hired and is working on it as we speak! It may or may not be ready for the Pristine Cut release. I plan to publish it at the end of the month.

says it updated but what changed?

(4 edits)

I probably rolled out an update by accident. The Pristine Cut version of LSS is was too large to fit into the website's 1GB limit.

It's worth noting that I could contact the staff about this but, a month after release, the game is still shadowbanned from itchio's search results.

why not just divide it into 2 parts with winrar?

Change of plans! All I needed to do was be smart about file optimization. Compressed the songs down a notch and now the game's even lower in file size than before.

As for dividing the game, it'd add a needless extra step to installation, I'd try to refrain from touching that as much as possible. Luckily it's not necessary anymore.

but reducing the sound quality is not cool to put on media fire

(1 edit)

The drop in quality is unnoticable, pinky promise 🙏

(+2)

Hell yeah, I was waiting for it since the reddit post and saw another one today about it!

Glad to hear it's out, I will try it as soon as possible! Thanks for your work. o/

(+1)

It's not out yet! At best on 31st assuming everyone makes it one time with their assets

I'll play the current one for a bit and then play the update again

(2 edits) (+2)

Huge update to LSS is in the works! Expect it to release this month!

Huge thanks to head of the Cavemanon studio "The Nerd" for offering their feedback, alongside many other folk who shared their thoughts on the game. That means you as well, random anon on /vg/!

See you in a few!

(2 edits) (+3)

Great little fan game! Unlike a lot of the fan mods It was put out fully completed. Love that. Also really good original music choices as well. There are a few grammer and spelling errors here and there but other than that, a flawless VN.

(+2)

If you still remember what those errors were, I'd appreciate it if you reported them to me via either @snoot_talk on Discord or via my e-mail snoottalk@proton.me. The game is planned to have one large update in the future, including remakes of existing scenes, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

(+1)

THE ONE PIECE! THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!

Patch 1.03:

- accidentally added in 1.02, finished writing additional dialogue for a few scenes

I just realized I released patch 1.02 with a new unfinished (WIP anim and pacing, otherwise fully playable) scene in one of the final chapters. I wrapped it up real quick and it's ready now.

For full transparency, it's at the very end of the Naser route of the epilogue, starting with "Anon, one last thing". I was ironing out a plot point that got a little sidelined in the heat of things. Alongside this change, a few other pieces of dialogue got updated (Ripley route, the ending) to reflect this. Apologies for the inconvenience!

In the future, any significant narrative additions/changes will be kept for a larger patch/improved cut of the fangame.

Patch 1.02:

- numerous small improvements to text pacing

- polished up "A path in the woods" (quick menu hides any time the StP cast speaks, removed the remaining {nw} tags since they notoriously break voice line playback

- added a few new things to one of the secret bonus stories

- remade Naomi drawings at the dinner table, the OG artwork can still be procced and found in the gallery

Patch 1.01, a very quick hotfix:

- fix for Taxi guy's line of dialogue (credit to CrazyFish1234)

- added a missing quick_menu = True at the start of the game

- replaced anon's postprom happy sprite with a correct one

(+1)

I dont know if this was meant to be, but when Anon meets the taxi driver the first time out of his apartment, Anon says that he needs to get to Volcano High. Then when the taxi driver speaks, it doesnt have his name

(2 edits)

Good catch, thanks for telling me! Adding it to the list, I myself found a thing or two to tweak. I'll patch this stuff ASAP.
